Problem
You are worried that your all-important 12-word Daedalus wallet recovery phrase is correct, and would like to verify it.
Cause
The 12-word Daedalus wallet recovery phrase is the most important piece of information related to controlling ada via the Daedalus wallet and it is difficult to remember so it may be necessary to validate it from time to time for piece of mind.
Solution
If you do not have access to Daedalus wallet due to technical issues see Alternate Method using Yoroi at the end of this article.
There are many reasons who you need to use your 12-word Daedalus wallet recovery phrase. For example, if you lose your spending password, or if you need to delete and restore your wallet, then you will need to use your 12-word Daedalus wallet recovery phrase. Many people are worried that they may not be able to do this properly and will lose control of their wallet, and lose all their ada. If you are not sure whether the restore phrase you saved when creating the wallet is correct, then you can check it like this before you delete your wallet:
- Navigate to the Restore a wallet screen, click on the wallet icon in the top left of the Daedalus window, then click on Add wallet on the bottom left of the Daedalus window. Select the Backup recovery phrase tab.
2. Enter your 12-word Daedalus wallet recovery phrase in the Recovery phrase field. in the top left of the Recovery phrase field you will see the message Please enter all 12 words until you enter all the words.
3. If the recovery phrase you entered is correct then you will see no message in the top left of the Recovery phrase field. If you click on the Restore wallet button, then you will get the message Wallet you are trying to restore already exists.
4. If the recovery phrase you entered is incorrect then you will see a message in the top left of the Recovery phrase field that says Invalid recovery phrase.
Alternate Method using Yoroi
Using your 12-word Daedalus wallet recovery phrase you can migrate your Daedalus wallet to Yoroi. If you are unable to access Daedalus, this method can be considered a secondary option for checking your 12-word Daedalus wallet recovery phrase.
Please note that when migrating from Daedalus to Yoroi, a transaction is created and your funds are sent to Yoroi. See this video for more detailed information on the migration process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4tiF1R0_40

This is not much use if you need to delete the data because your wallet wont sync, you don''t have access to this screen....
I have written down my seed phrase, bought some Cardano a year ago (about a 1000).
Now on the new device (because the old one doesn't exist anymore), I'm entering the same seed phrase, it restores the wallet and gives me absolutely new one with 0 balance. (I'm sure the seed phrase is correct and that I had ADA in the wallet).
What can be wrong?
Thanks.
..."worried that your all-important 12-word Daedalus wallet recovery phrase is correct, and would like to verify it."...
The wallet won't sync and won't open, no menu for restore. This is an invalid solution. I have my12 words written down, but don't want to try until I can log in and check the recovery phrase I have, then delete and download again and restore. Can't IOHK validate the words on some other format to the owner if given to you?.
So, basically with the same seed phrase it creates the new wallet with 0 ADA and 0 past transactions (I'm not new to crypto)
Not sure if this is the reason for your zero balance, but a (freshly restored from seed words) wallet cannot know the balance until it scans through the blockchain.
I started to worry about the team qualification.
as others mentioned, one main reason to restore using 12-word is that you cannot open your wallet at all. And you are telling in order to check 12-word, OPEN the wallet and check the 12-word???
If I could open the wallet why would I need to check the 12-word?
Agreed Thanks Nick, I'm checking if delete wallet when deleting the DB folder is still required.
When I restore my wallet using the 12 word seed, the address it produces does not match my old ADA address where all my balance is stored. Any advice?
this is not good enough, can we have some resolution please.
If it is not synced and abke to.access menus, then I will not try until I can verify my 12
Some of these fundamental problems must be solved. Solving would attract greater adoption you already know. So keep up the good work!
