Cardano Node is part of Daedalus wallet, to understand more we'll give you a peek at what's under the hood of Daedalus Wallet.
From Version 0.12.0 there are some messages in Daedalus wallet that refer to the Cardano Node. It's also good to know about this, if you are working with blockchain technology.
What is Cardano Node?
Daedalus wallet actually consists of 3 components:
- Daedalus Frontend
- Cardano Node
So for example, starting Daedalus wallet involves all 3 components:
- The Launcher takes care of starting Daedalus Frontend with the correct configuration.
- The Daedalus Frontend then takes care of starting and shutting down the Cardano Node which is done through the (interprocess communication) IPC channel.
- The Cardano Node starts
While Daedalus wallet is in operation, Daedalus communicates with the Cardano Node through the Wallet API. This allows Dadealus wallet to fetch information about the blockchain to be displayed to the user and to execute operations such as creating transactions.
In this setup, the Cardano Node is also known as the Daedalus Backend because it takes care of communication with the rest of the Cardano Network for the Daedalus Frontend. Cardano Node also handles all blockchain related operations such as syncing and serves blockchain information to the Daedalus Frontend.
