Optimize macOS to work with Daedalus and Cardano-Node
If your machine is in the edge of the Daedalus system requirements, it is extremely important to follow the tips below to ensure Daedalus will run fine in your machine:
1. Keep your operating system updated: Update macOS
2. Check system use with Activity Monitor and close unneeded processes:
- Open Activity Monitor, use the CPU and Memory Tabs to find which processes are taking more resources. Close processes that you don’t need. View memory usage in Activity Monitor on Mac
- Close other applications. Seriously, close them, for example, Chrome uses about 1GB of your RAM when opened with a single tab, close it to allow the cardano-node to have the resources it needs.
3. Reduce visual effects:
- Reduce screen motion on Mac
- Open up System Preferences from the Apple menu, go to Dock menu, uncheck the boxes for Animate opening applications and Automatically hide and show the doc
4. Free up storage on your Mac:
- Ideally you should aim for at least 75GB of free disk space. Manage storage on your Mac
5. Scan your Mac for viruses and malware
- Apart from the security implications, malware can have a severe impact on your machine’s performance
6. Restart your Mac
7. Add more RAM to your Mac:
Open Apple Menu, click About this Mac, select the Memory tab, click Memory upgrade instructions or visit: How to install memory on MacBook and iMac
